If my game had a budget, it wouldn't be freeware. Tongue
(Speaking of which, I was thinking of returning to development to that shareware game I started over a year ago, and never really mentioned... Wink)

I love criticism don't get me wrong latchie, I even like bad reviews. How else would I become a better programmer unless I had people telling me what I need to work on. But its just that constructive criticism. What I was pointing out is, and we all know of these people, are those that make snide comments but really do not offer anything in return. Its as if they just wish to tear down what others have created and I try to ignore it, but honestly it gets to me after awhile. I just don't want people to completely ignore the game because the graphics or music are unoriginal, that to me seems rather silly.

As for paying for an artist, well if I had the money to do that I would be charging for the end result. I do pay for my hobby though, this computer I am typing on didn't grow from a tree. If I reach a certain amount of money spent for a 'hobby' then it no longer becomes just a 'hobby', it better start returning some revenue. If you have the money to blow on an artist for a freeware project, well thats great. But to me it seems like a waste of good money, when money is very precious to me.

Well, like I said, I'm with SSC on this. If it's a hobby that brings you pleasure, like golfing, you shouldn't mind spending money on it.

I guess it really depends on how much you need the money or have an ambitious to eventually become a proffesional in the hobby in question.

I personally enjoy both reading and writing game reviews. Do they exist for the criticism itself, I don’t know. But I’m not sure if that is a bad thing by definition. I always appreciate it someone takes an analytical approach to my game, even if the end score is a negative one.
Have to agree there. Your review of LL (by the way, thanks for the vouch of originality Nek Wink) was the best I'd read of it by far, despite the liberal mention of shortcomings-- You were clearly aiming to give an honest opinion (one which I actually agree with for the most part), not just mindlessly bash something.

As for the whole ripped graphics argument, I don't mind it so much-- I guess that might be strange coming from a pixel artist, I dunno. I've played some great games with ripped graphics (A Blurred Line, for example), and as long as the representation comes across well, it doesn't bother me much. It might annoy me if a game ripped every last one of its graphics from a single game, but I haven't seen that yet so I dunno, really. As was previously mentioned, if it all meshes well it doesn't bother me. In some cases a slightly mismatched set of visuals can even add to a game's sense of style, if it's a gritty, patchy sort of world. That might just be me, though. I sorta like that kind of thing. I'm too much of an OCD "must be original!" kinda person with graphics for projects I work on to really try it myself, but I think it's kinda cool when I see it in other games. I dunno, I might be the only one there. Tongue

I kinda disagree regarding the graphics in A Blurred Line. I think ripped/non-original graphics was poorly handled and compiled in that game. Every played Love and War?

I think that this RPG 2000 game handles non-original graphics much better than A Blurred Line. And by my opinion, is on par regarding story design, if not surpassing A Blurred Line.

Overlooked RPG 2000 game for sure.

Start with simpla original media for your game:

Here some of effect called beat, mix closest frequency wave (anything.. square, sine, cosine, triangle..) like 440Hz and 440.5Hz. it will sound like beat. Mix noise and triangle or sine wave you will got laser like sound. mix low frequency with high frequency you will got jet engine like sound effect.

You can use FM function from Soundforge (I use v.6.0 demo). It's cool enough!
I can make plotergeist, rain, laser, warp, explode sound effect.  Embarrassed setting missing when i upgrade to XP.
Maybe I will seek again for that!
