Created a small website for Relativity: http://lithium.vectec.net/relativity/

I'll have a demo of the first 1-2 missions by the end of the weekend

EDIT: This website contains a working download, the server I have the other files hosted on is down

Hello guys. 24 days till the deadline. I would appreciate your project updates and projections for the deadline (will you release an entry, partial entry, etc.)

My life has been a little bit hectic lately and will continue so for the next few weeks, but managing this competition is a priority, so you don't have to worry about that part.

Your entries will be reviewed and the money will be distributed to the winners. I only hope I'll have time to release another Basic Gaming issue in the meantime.

Cheers!

Hi Everyone,

Wow, I just came back to the thread today and saw all your post.

First, congratulation to SSJX, Gothon and Lithium. You seem to have great games !!!

When Lachie lauched this contest with this incredible theme i told myself  "do something this time".

In the early years of video games, there was no color.
I still remember those old Pong Games that you could play on the TV.
(oups... i just gave you a hint on my age ....)

My game RACESII will try to pay a little respect to those early games

So, i added one more level of challenge to my project:
--> Use only regular DOS ASCII code to make my graphics.

The resolution is 100x37. So it was very hard to achieve something realistic with that.

Racesii is a race game with the objective to drive as long as you can (Not to be the first)
The game normally Start at midnight and finished when you have no more life or fuel

You get point according to average speed, car passed, number of lap made and finally total length of the road made.

The game have sound effect, music and even Speech processing.

You will be able to control when you start the game, how quickly time passes during a day,
at what time is the Sunrise / Sunset, Difficulty level, race track type
and finally full control over Voice, Music and sound effect

I have included some Printscreen as a sneak preview.

The game will be ready by the end of the month and I hope you will like it.

Good luck to all

Hi,
Your entry looks very cool fxg861, looks like outrun/hang on!

My entry is still being updated mostly minor stuff, it's now up to version 0.6:

Great idea for the progression of colors, FXG861, with the night to day transition.

This is turning into our most successful competition yet.

There is Lithium's Relativity, ssjx's Mononites, Landeel's Y.A.G.A.C, FXG's racing game and I assume Gothon's 3D snake game. This seems to be the minimum that will be submitted. Anyone else?

[EDIT] Slightly newer version with better difficulty

First mission (and a bit) for Relativity is out!

Some important things are missing from the start of the game that will be added later, such as:

 - 1bpp mode
 - escape menu
 - multiple save games
 - title menu
 - new weapon after beating first boss
 - music & soundfx thanks to Zamaster

But these things will come... so much framework has been written

Great progress guys!

BTW ssjx, I really do think you can make the engine slightly less wooden. Like did you consider using inertia with jumping? Now when I jump, the speed is constant when going up and down. When the player jumps apply starting upward speed and let it reduce by gravity to some maximum negative value. Same thoughts when moving left and right. The current setup makes moving around and jumping somewhat clumsy and wooden.

I do like the new menu and levels. The story intro is fun!

Please consider adding some fun background tune to this game.

Update:

Here is my last demo before the push to make the final entry.  I now have 2 levels, 2 colors, and a game menu screen working.  The snake body is now texture mapped which allows you to see it moving better.  There is now music and sound effects thanks to the internet.  The tongue ability now works, unleash it like a sword after you colllect green.  The first level is perhaps too easy (but hey, its the first level), and the last level is perhaps too hard (but hey, its the last level).

The core game engine is starting to look close to finnished now, and I hope to implement more colors and more levels (at least one of each) before the competition is over.  Over the holiday I was able to use the C emitter to get the previous demo working on a Mac, however I do not have access to a Mac anymore, and will not be able to attempt to compile on one again until after the competition is over.

Hi Everyone,

It is very cool to see what the others have done so far.
!!! A very good job to all competitors for your hard work !!!

On my side, i still have some work to do but getting there.

I just uploaded my latest version so people can see and try it.
This version is set for the Easy Road with Low difficulty level .

It is only 1 file (Exe) because i always try to avoid external dll
As reason, all code/library will be included when submiting the final version of the game

Keep up the spirit and inspiration

Love the development of your entry Gothon. Really enjoyed testing the latest version. I am confused what down key should do, if it's active in this demo at all. Perfectly picked music track. It gives a game a cool, transcendental feel, wonderfully married with the abstract theme of the game. And I dig the ears (horns?) on the snake. Engine is great as well. The game didn't end on the second level when I lost all lives, but I think it did reset the level, despite memorizing the orbs I collected. I was left to collect dark orbs, but none of them appeared in the playfield (after I lost all lives and continued playing in that level). Hope you'll be able to complete the entry in the form you intended. Good luck!

Also, I love your entry FXG. Very smooth and sexy engine. Perhaps not so well picked background music track, in my opinion. I do hope you'll provide some scores to beat with the final version so there are goals to achieve in the game from the start, beside beating your own scores. Consider a survival mode where you drive constantly at super high speed, that might even increase with each lap, and the goal is to survive with one life as long as possible. BTW, don't you think the night should last longer?

...

Wow!

YAGAC, Relativity, Color Eater 3D, RACESII, Mononoties and probably few surprise entries (Ryan, Tusike, Clay Dragon, N3trunn3r, ChangeV), ...

With some many wonderful games, I'm considering upping the second prize and adding the third, from my own funds. We'll see.

Hi Lachie,

Thank you for your comments.

From the future Menu you will be able:

- See Credits and HighScore
- To Enable/Disable and select the Volume for each  (Sound, Music, Voice)
- Select your Background Music (You will choose between 5)
(I hope you will find one to your liking)
- Define manually at what time is Sunrise and Sunset
- Define manually at what time the race Start (To comply to the competition rules / Select Midnight)
- Define manually at what speed the time pass during a day (Ex: 1 Sec = 15 Min)

During a game:

- You will need to keep a "minimum" average speed otherwise you will be disqualified
- Your fuel level are decreasing according to your average speed
- Bonus Fuel, Life and ScorePoint Icon appearance is linked to average speed and Score
- Difficulty will increase automaticly according to number of lap made
- The Chance to get Fuel during a game are decreasing according to Difficulty level
- Number of opponent car is linked with the difficulty level
- Opponent car aggressiveness is linked with the difficulty level
- If you get the SpeedBoost Icon you get Turbo Speed with invincibillity for a short period of time

I will update the game RACESII frequently during the next 2 week

Just use this link to get the latest version (New version update today 2012/01/22)

All comments and suggestions are more than welcome

Hello there! All this looks very promising! Cheesy Awesome job guys!!

This time I don't have anything to contribute to the competition.
The color theme was not so appealing to me and I had/have to do a load of other things.
But don't worry I have some other FB projects running...

So long...

Hi All,

Thank you Lachie for your comments, and every one who has played the game.  You are right that the down key functionality and Game Over were not implemented in my last demo.  They are however implemented now.

Update:
I now have a 3rd level and added functionality for green, red and magenta.  I plan to implement another level in the time remaining, however I will not have time to implement cyan or blue, so they will just be colors as colors in the final level.  And I have cleaned up the source code somewhat and am releasing it.

Excellent job everyone, I can't wait to play all your final entries.
