Thanks for the feedback you two!

I think the reason pacman is seeming a bit dim is because he cannot change direction. The main reason behind this is to allow the player to try and trap him, otherwise i thought it would be near impossible to capture him. I will see if this is really the case. Also as pacman cannot see around corners, he will happily walk straight into a ghost..

The time that pacman can eat ghosts should be 15 second up to a maximum of 30, but i will double check to make sure i did not break it... The effect of the red dots is cumulative though, so if more are collected he will stay red for longer.

I will look at changing the ghost control method, on the 3rd map their is a lot of stop - starting.

Okay, possibly the last update unless i find any glaring issues:

- Pacman can change direction mid travel
- Player control method changed (no stopping at each junction)
- Difficulty select screen added
- Minor tweak to pacman AI
- Minor change to the first map (to stop pac/ghost colliding almost immediately)

The score table now has better defaults! (the previous low scores were from cut/paste laziness...)

Pac man sometimes has the habit of bouncing between two directions, this may get fixed at some point but is more an annoyance at the moment. I don't want to make things worse with the deadline coming up!

Also the ghosts have names! Not overly original one mind, I forgot to mention that in the readme...

Here's the link:

Thanks for looking!

I didn't notice this, but ghosts don't have their own house once they get eaten. :/

I see now in the readme that this is a gameplay choice. Not sure I prefer it. I know it would be difficult for pacman to win otherwise, unless you had time to code an excellent pacman AI. Still, I think pacman red dot invincibility lasts way too long. Usually, when he eats one red dot, I'm screwed because he keeps killing my ghosts and always in the meantime manages to eat another red dot.

Hmm.. on the 3rd map pac does seem to stay almost permanently red... I think i will reduce the red time by 5 or so seconds. Otherwise the 2nd level maps where this time is increased would be virtually impossible!

I did think about the ghosts having a house but thought that they would probably struggle to find it (no bad thing) and that it would take up to much space without shrinking the graphics.

Curious to see some other entries now...

One week left till the deadline people. I'm eager to hear which of you will be able to submit a playable entry. I will collect the final versions from the links you provide or files you email me on 18th of January, 23:00 GMT.

There was plenty of time. Before and after the hollydays. And a hefty cash award. A bit surprised with the poor response so far.

I do hope there are at least 2-3 persons who are holding out for the deadline. I'm hoping to get minimum 3 entries on the level of ssjx's game (or better) to consider the compo a success.

I changed 'lost in forest' theme into 'town exploring' theme.
gameplay is simple NES Zelda style.
it is 2D sprite/tile based. no poligon stuff.
joypad is supported (just 1 button is used)

I just finished title screen this evening.

option is not coded yet.

I am still working on various parts of game.

Uh, if people who are planing to complete an entry on the level of ShawnLG or ChangeV's games need one more week (including them two), I might consider extending the deadline for this time period. But only if they express this desire and there are no objections from other participants.

Please be quick with your demands and post screenshots.

I'll object just because you said there wouldn't be any more extensions. :P

I think the competition response has been decent. I see at least two entries better than mine, and you'll probably get some more. And Ciw had better prizes. ;)

Here is old WIP screenshot.

I dropped many features and keep reducing many things as deadline approaches.
I changed Extended play into option menu...(which is not coded yet)

I think I can finish game before deadline.

Well no I dont think it was plenty of time for those of us who have college and cant draw all the images ourselves. I guess I'm out of the competition... at least this motivated me to work on something.

Yet more minor changes:

- Reduced pacmans red time
- Ghost 4 was missing his little number
- More info on pause screen
- Some movement on the title screen

http://ssjx.co.uk/windows/pacman-ghosts.php

Again, this will probably be my last update before the deadline. Although i could happily tweak and add to the game until the end of time, i am fairly happy with it as it stands!

Both ChangeV and ShawnsLG's entries are looking very good! Hopefully there will be some more last minute entries!

I worked halfday and returned home to post/upload my entry.

anyway, because of deadline, lots of idea were dropped.
(town people would level up when they kill slime....something like that)
arena mode(endless fight) was droped.

SLIME QUEST

since I can't upload to ChangeVWorld domain for some reason, I used free file hosting sites.
at least, one of them will work.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L0YZQY80
http://rapidshare.com/files/337371810/slime_quest_v03.zip.html

http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f=aa76ed8ef160619a8f1190e0d82b65b9

you control slime and try to escape from castle Zoo to your slime village.

find key from people or various objects in town.
and escape before time runs out.
when that happens, ChangeV will get you!

control is super simple.
move with arrow key or joypad
attack with [Space]key or [z]key or [Ctrl]key or joypad button
call menu with [Esc]key or joypad button

tip.
apple will heal some HP.
your slime trail can stun people.(drain some HP too)
knight is immune(iron boots) to slime trail. be careful.
people have recover time when they are punched. so machinegun-punch will not work. time your punch when you attack people.
When you use continue, helper arrow will point where the key is hidden.
slime trail has some effect on fallen people. when you paint a lot on people, some good item will pop up.
You get medal point for doing various task.
joypad is supported.
you can change button setting for menu button and attack button in option menu.

There are many parody from our previous games.
if you played our old QBasic games, you will understand more stuff.

learn well-timed machinegun-punch, it can practically stun people and kill them on the spot
