Ok. I plan to keep the things here quite loose, but since some types of forum behaviors quite scratch me, I think it's fair I warn you on them. Follow the....hmm...following rules and I won't have to threat you with banning and similar gay stuff.

Rule #1

No mobbing! If I see more than 2 users picking on another user because you consider him a troll or whatever, I'll ban you out of here before you know it. Jump into a flamewar if you feel provoked and feel your post can be constructive, not because you like some big-daddy-o-programming who is in the middle of beating a poor troll and you so want to join him.

Rule #2

No double thread or message posting. If you post two same topics by mistake, ask a moderator to delete one. Also, if you placed your topic in the wrong sub-forum and are unable to delete it anymore, ask a moderator to move it.

Rule #3

No spamming. This means real spamming (by my very own definition). Posting very similar threads or private messages consecutively, posting unintelligible threads, or posting random pointless messages inside the existing forum topics. Posting useless topics is not spamming.

Rule #4

No public whinging about being flamed. Keep a specific flamewar in the appropriate topic. Don't spread your bile all over the forum.

Rule #5

No illegal content is allowed to be posted in the forum. I hope I don't have to remind you what that includes.

Rule #6

No linking to any sort of porn (adult) material is allowed. This is the rule of my host, so please oblige to it. Infringing this rule after one warning will result in immediate banning.

Rule #7

Please keep the vulgarity on the minimum. Again, this is the rule of my host so try to restrain yourself. I won't be too rigid regarding this rule unless one of you gets out of control.

Rule #8

Don’t advertise your non-FreeBASIC products (C++, Flash, whatnot) in the FreeBASIC Game Development section unless you plan to port them to FB (please don’t abuse this exemption). Keep this kind of stuff in the General Discussion, although I personally won’t like seeing it there too.

Norm #1

Thread locking will never be applied.

Norm #2

Nobody will be gagged or censored unless he or she is spamming, posting porn, or being vulgar above acceptable level. Spamming is not being a nuisance to moderators.

And that’s it for now. All this is effective as of today until I change my mind.

My thoughts (take it or leave it):

Rule #1:  In other words, if someone says something I don't like I shouldn't respond unless I have something useful and constructive to say?  Fair enough, that will probably prevent most flamewars, and the flamewars it doesn't prevent are the kind worth having anyways.  Actually, that should be a rule in general, though perhaps not enforced as much:  why respond if you don't have anything useful to add - even if you aren't saying something negative?  Not that we shouldn't ever have any "useless" topics ala Total Spam in c0de...

Rule #2:  Yeah... and please nobody post the same thing in several forums.  We have that in the official forums too from time to time, when somebody is so excited about their program that they want to post a whole thread about it in each and every possible relevant sub-forum.  If it's a game demo for windows, they'll post it in Projects, Game Dev, Windows, General, and Tips and Tricks.  If you feel like doing this, CONTROL YOURSELF.  Otherwise I hope Lachie bans you.

Rule #3:  I trust your definition is the same as most people's, and I agree wholeheartedly.

Rule #4:  Hear, hear.  This rule will prevent the whole thing from going to hell.

Rule #5:  WHAT?!  I THOUGHT YOU SAID THIS WAS THE FREEBASIC CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND COCAINE FANCLUB!!!!!  (Just kidding)

Rule #6:  Well, I guess that strikes Child Pornography doubly.  Darn.

Rule #7:  Fuck people who don't like the F word.  Literally, I mean.  Or figuratively.  Or whatever.

Rule #8:  I dunno... if it's a bonafide member of the FB community who contributes to the community but wants to talk about their project, I don't have anything against that.  I would be very much against someone who doesn't know a thing about FreeBasic telling us about their great new game that they wrote in Visual Basic.  I mean, seriously.

Norm #1:  Great, this will make things funner.

Norm #2:  SPAM.  SPAM.  SPAM.  SPAM.  SPAM...

I meant it how it's written. Personally I hate seeing admins and moderators gagging or deleteing threads because they find them useless, boring and unconstructive. I will personally try to restrain myself from such actions, and I do hope my moderators will too.

Anyway, thanks for your input. Not sure if anything needs to be changed regarding your feedback notthecheatr. Unless you want to phrase it in specific rules. I stand on my "no non-FreeBASIC products in the FreeBASIC Game Dev section". I guess I'll try not to be anal when non-FreeBASIC programs get posted by "bonafide members" in the General Discussion section.

That's good, to do that kind of thing would give the forum a bad name.  On the other hand, there will be times when it will be wise to close/lock/hide a thread, and it takes wisdom to know which is which.

Oh no, I don't disagree with anything you said.  That's fine if you don't want non-FB projects in the FB Game Dev section, in fact reasonable since it does after all refer to FB.

I'll warn you, you will likely have to regulate swearing. Plasma won't allow it, and if someone decides to try to get you in trouble and reports you, he won't tolerate it. He threatened me... keep that in mind.

Thanks for warning me on this. I'll check Plasma's server TOS.

EDIT:

Ok. Somewhat major rule changes. I read Plasma's HOSTING rules and in the light of that the forum rules had to be changed. Changes include no linking to porn AT ALL and keep the vulgarity on minimum.

Thank you.

Here's a norm, for handling topics you want to post both here and in the main forum:

- Post the content here
- One day later, post in the main forum, a link to your thread in this forum

That way, people here get to see things a day early, people in the main forums are constantly sent here, and you don't have to manage completely duplicated threads.  Cheesy

So, is linking to porn ok?

The idea that I can be presented with a problem, set out to logically solve it with the tools at hand, and wind up with a program that could not be legally used because someone else followed the same logical steps some years ago and filed for a patent on it is horrifying.
